Barcelona hosted a new edition of Europe’s leading meeting dedicated to mechanical circulatory support and advanced therapies in heart failure. International specialists reviewed the latest technological advances, clinical challenges, and the future of treating advanced heart failure.

Held from February 15 to 18, 2026, in Barcelona, the European Mechanical Circulatory Support Summit (EUMS-2026), together with the 11th International Course on Mechanical Circulatory Support (MCS) and New Technologies in Advanced Heart Failure, brought together cardiologists, cardiac surgeons, intensivists, biomedical engineers, and specialized heart failure nurses.

The congress focused on the evolution of mechanical circulatory support as a bridge to transplant, destination therapy, and bridge to recovery. Advances in left ventricular assist devices (LVADs), biventricular support, and extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) systems were discussed, along with innovations in device miniaturization, biocompatibility, and remote monitoring. Experts also addressed patient selection criteria, management of complications—such as thrombosis, infections, and bleeding events—and optimization of outpatient follow-up.

One of the central thematic pillars was the integration of new technologies, including artificial intelligence applied to the prediction of adverse events and digital platforms for home-based hemodynamic monitoring. Recent international registry data and multicenter studies were also analyzed, showing progressive improvements in survival and quality of life among patients with advanced heart failure.

The program combined keynote lectures, roundtable discussions, complex case presentations, and hands-on simulation workshops. Multidisciplinary collaboration and the exchange of experience among European centers further consolidated EUMS as a strategic forum to drive innovation and standardize best practices in the treatment of advanced heart failure.
